Protecting Virtual Playgrounds

I'm going to be speaking at Washington and Lee University of Law in Virginia on Friday.  My friend, Joshua Fairfield, is putting on a symposium entitled "Protecting Virtual Playgrounds: Children, Law, and Play Online".  Josh is one of the brightest minds on the subject of gaming, virtual worlds and the law, and I'm looking forward to a lively discussion.  The site for the symposium is here.

Warner Bros. has something to F.E.A.R.

One good piece of news to come out of the Activision|Blizzard purchase of Sierra was that by dropping the F.E.A.R. license, Warner Bros. was able to buy it back (in name, anyway).  So the new name of the forth-coming sequel from Monolith starring everyone's favorite disturbed little girl, Alma, is now F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin.  Scheduled street date is February 10th, 2009.  Continued success to all our friends at Monolith, and congrats on getting back your name to go along with your excellent franchise.

Check out Emily

This is where game and film animation is going to be in the next five years.  Exciting and scary at the same time...

Back from the Bay

Well, Flint and I just returned from an extended stay up in the Bay Area working on a very interesting project that you may be hearing more about in the future.  While we were gone, we signed up a couple more cool projects that we'll be able to provide updates on once all the paperwork (ie. legal stuff) is squared away.  Space Chimps game is out.  Wish the film had done better, but they counter-programmed it against The Dark Knight.  Yikes.

Also, Activision-Blizzard brought the suck in a major way by dropping both Ghostbusters and Riddick: Dark Athena.  They're very solid games with good developers, but neither game starts with the word "World" and ends with "Warcraft", so there you go.  Here's hoping both games find a new publisher very soon.

Ultimate Guide Holding Steady on Amazon

Just was sniffing around the web and saw that the Ultimate Guide is back to #1 in Game Programming.  Thanks to everyone for your support, including those of you who have dropped us a line and even been kind enough to post a positive review.  We appreciate it more than you can ever know.  Some big things coming down the pike in the next few weeks.  We'll post 'em here once we aren't violating any NDA's.
